LOCAL HERO OF THE MONTH MAY 2025

After his 20 years of service Pedro retired 4 years ago. He is currently employed at the National Laboratory Emergency Management Hazardous Materials Division. He is a team leader on the explosives section team.

Pedro likes to spend time with his family most. Pedro is married to Sylvia Hernandez. He is father to Ariel (21), Ann-Marie (17), and Ava (4). When he is not at work or with the family, most times you will find Pedro hiking in the countryside, or out hunting. Pedro’s time in the Marines provided him with the opportunity to meet and become friends with many people. This is the most enjoyable part of being in the Service according to Pedro. These friends are lifelong friendships that he still speaks with regularly despite his retirement.

Master Sergeant Hernandez believes that your reality is shaped by your beliefs, values, and your hard work. His advice to others is “Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you too!”

Pedro had contracted with a roofing company that had been recommended to replace the roof of his house he is now renting in the area. Unfortunately, this company did a poor job and was asked to leave halfway through the installation. We were referred to Pedro by his realtor. Despite the first company taking the first payment from the insurance company, we were able to replace the roof. We provided Pedro a discounted quote so that he was able to get the work completed.
